BURNING DOWN THE FAITH

Kamator 1993.

  • Who was involved?: Ishmael, the Imam, the rebels, Talloi, Gibrilla, Kaloko, Khalilou, and Junior.

  • When did the event happen?: The event happened after three to four months since Ishmael had been living in Kamator, June 1993. The rebels attacked Kamator at night while the people at the village were praying.

  • Where did the event happen? The event took place at the square of the village (Kamator),  where the Imam was burned.

  • What happened?: The rebels attacked Kamator, then they captured the Imam of the town and demand him to give them information about the locations in the forest where the people were hiding. Since the Imam refused, the rebels tied him to an iron post and burn him down.

  • Why did it happen?: The Imam was burned because he did not give any information to the rebels and refused to help them find them.  Also because he is a religious leader who is clearly against their ideology.
